The Seattle University men's tennis team continued their Colorado road trip Saturday, losing 5-2 at Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colo.

The Redhawks kicked the match off by winning the doubles point. At the top doubles spot, the SU tandem of Will Topp (Olympia, Wash.) and Zach Kosanke (Bellevue, Wash.) easily dispatched Northern Colorado's team of Brandon Lupo and Ben Gendron 8-2. At No. 2 doubles, Kevin Lynch (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Jason Bediones (Kent, Wash.) also won, defeating Mitchel Knight and Jordan Loughnan 8-4 and clinching the doubles point for Seattle U.

Rounding out the doubles action, Ian Clare (Sachse, Texas) and Kyle Rapp (Encinitas, Calif.) fell to Northern Colorado's team of Michael Moya and Eric Schuermans, also by a score of 8-4.

Despite losing five of the six singles matches, the Redhawks were competitive throughout the lineup as the first set in five matches finished with a score of 7-5. Topp claimed the Redhawks' sole individual victory with a win at No. 2 singles. Outlasting the Bears' Gendron 7-5 in the first set, Topp dominated the second set and won the match 7-5, 6-0 for his first collegiate dual victory.

At No. 1 singles, Lynch fought Northern Colorado's Lupo hard throughout the first set but couldn't break through. He lost the set 7-5 and the match 7-5, 6-2. Kosanke, at No. 3 singles, also lost 7-5, 6-2 to Knight, and Rapp was the third Redhawk to lose 7-5, 6-2 as he fell at No. 5 singles to the Bears' Moya.

Bediones, at No. 4 singles, squared off against Loughnan for the second time in the match. Despite Bediones' victory in the doubles competition, he couldn't get his second victory of the day and lost 6-2, 6-2.

Rounding out the lineup, Clare squared off against Schuermans at No. 6 singles. Clare hung tough in the first set before falling 7-5. Clare won one game in the second set but retired and ceded the match to Schuermans 7-5, 2-1 (ret.).

The Redhawks will close out their road trip in the Rockies with a match Sunday, Jan. 27 at Air Force. That contest is slated for a 8:00 a.m. Pacific start.
