The University of Washington women's tennis team, ranked #47 in the ITA rankings, controlled Tuesday's match from start to finish, sweeping Seattle University, 7-0, at the Nordstrom Tennis Center in the first-ever meeting between the crosstown rivals.
The Huskies cruised through the doubles sets, shutting out the Redhawks in both number one and number two doubles. At number three doubles, Sarah Lucas (Las Vegas, Nev.) and Kristen James (Lubbock, Texas) took two games before falling, 8-2.
In singles play, the most competitive match came in the number two position, as Lindsey Newman (Freeland, Wash.) stuck with Andjela Nemcevic in the second set before finally dropping the straight-set contest (6-0, 6-3). Corinne Wurden (Poulsbo, Wash.) collected two games in the first set before falling in straight sets (6-2, 6-0), while both Lucas and Gabriella Weissmann (Simi Valley, Calif.) were able to take one game off their respective opponents.
