Redhawk Swim Teams Compete in Final Home Meets

The Seattle University men's and women's swim teams return to competition with the final home meets of the 2012-13 season this weekend at the Connolly Center Pool.

Friday evening, Jan. 11, the men welcome Pacific Lutheran to the Connolly Center for a dual meet starting at 5:30 p.m., which is 30 minutes earlier than the originally listed starting time of 6 p.m. The two teams will compete in 11 events, including the 200-yard races in the backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, and individual medley.

Saturday afternoon, Jan. 12, both the men and the women will face Whitworth University in the final home meet of the season starting at 1 p.m. The 14-event program will be used, starting with the 400 medley relay and concluding with the 400 freestyle relay. Both the 100-yard and 200-yard races in the backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly will be held, as will all freestyle distances from 50-yard through 1000-yard and the 400 individual medley.

At 12:45 p.m., before the start of the meet, the 12 seniors on the 2012-13 roster will be recognized for their contributions to the Redhawk swimming program. The seniors who will be honored are: Owen Bley-Male (Portland, Ore.), Tyler Carriker (Everett, Wash.), James Gilmore (Eugene, Ore.), Megan Kelley (Las Vegas, Nev.), Rachel Leighter (Eugene, Ore.), Murray Longbotham (Mercer Island, Wash.), Chris Lynch (Seattle, Wash.), Marina Pomar-Enders (Mill Creek, Wash.), Kevlyn Richards (Gig Harbor, Wash.), Megan Robinson (Salt Lake City, Utah), Karla Ruff (Seattle, Wash.), and Joe Wertz (Richland, Wash.).

The Redhawks are preparing for the conference championships that will take place in February. The men will compete at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships Feb. 20-23 in Long Beach, Calif., while the women head to San Antonio, Texas, for the Western Athletic Conference Championships Feb. 27-March 2.

Admission is free for all Seattle U home swim meets, but seating is limited within the Connolly Center Pool.
