After helping lead the Seattle University women’s soccer team to a
5-1 victory over St. Mary’s (Aug. 19) during the opening weekend of 2012, junior
midfielder Julia Besagno (Maple Valley, Wash.) has been named the first Featured
Student-Athlete of the Week of the 2012-13 season on GoSeattleU.com.
“She had two amazing back-to-back games and was our quiet MVP,”
said head coach Julie Woodward. “She quarterbacks our midfield. She is often
not recognized because she plays a position in which she does not have the
opportunity to get a lot of stats.”
Besagno was one of only four Redhawks who played all 180 minutes
during opening weekend. She took five shots across the two matches, with two
shots on goal.
Academically, she has a 3.806 cumulative GPA and is a nursing
major.
Seattle U women’s soccer takes their first road trip of the 2012
regular season to face San Diego State on Friday, Aug. 24 at 7 p.m. before
returning home to host Eastern Washington on Sunday, Aug. 26 at 1 p.m.
The Seattle University athletics department names a Featured
Student-Athlete each Tuesday based on performances both in the classroom and in
competition.
