Seattle University women’s soccer senior Melissa
Busque (St. Bruno, Quebec, Canada) has been named the Western Athletic
Conference Offensive Player of the Week for the week of Aug. 13-19. The
conference will name an Offensive Player, Defensive Player, and Goalkeeper of
the Week each week throughout the season.
“Melissa had a great weekend for us,” said
Seattle U head coach Julie Woodward. “She looked extremely dangerous in both of
our games. It was nice to see her hard work rewarded with a few goals. She has
been a great addition to our team and is really just a fun player to watch.”
Busque had a hat trick in Sunday’ game versus
St. Mary’s, scoring the first two goals of the match and adding a third on a
corner kick in the second half. Her three goals led to a 5-1 victory over St.
Mary’s.
Busque also co-led the team in shots in both
matches over the weekend, with three (Aug. 17 vs. Washington) and five (Aug. 19
vs. St. Mary’s) shots.
Utah State’s Natalie Norris and Ashlyn
Mulford were named Defensive Player of the Week and Goalkeeper of the Week,
respectively.
With Utah State winning both contests this
weekend, Seattle U is one of four other WAC schools who won at least one match
on opening weekend.
The Redhawks head to San Diego, Calif. to
