Kassandra Riozzi led Seattle University with five shots, including three shots on goal, in Sunday's 0-0 tie at San Jose State.

Despite a significant shot advantage, the Seattle University women’s soccer team could not put any goals on the scoreboard, playing to a 0-0 tie with the San Jose State Spartans Sunday afternoon at Spartan stadium.

Seattle University outshot San Jose State, 18-10, including five shots on goal. Three of those shots on goal came in the first half, with two coming from freshman Kassandra Riozzi (Marysville, Wash.) in a 30-second span midway through the half that were both turned away by Spartan goalie Jordan Santos.

The Redhawks had another solid scoring chance in the 67th minute, but Jamie Coe’s (Duvall, Wash.) shot set up by Kara Kuttler’s (Redmond, Wash.) corner kick was stopped by Santos. With a minute left in the first overtime period, Maryann Boddy (Bellevue, Wash.) found Riozzi on a corner kick, but Santos again denied Riozzi to keep the match going into the second overtime period.

San Jose State (0-2-2) threatened to take the victory in the second overtime with three shots, but Angela Santoro’s shot midway through the second overtime frame was stopped by Seattle goalie Madison Goverde (Snohomish, Wash.), and Lauren Sanchez’s header as time wound down sailed wide right. Goverde earned her first career collegiate shutout with three saves in the match.

Seattle University (1-1-2) heads to Moscow, Idaho, for the Idaho Governor’s Cup, hosted by the University of Idaho. The Redhawks will face the Vandals Friday, Sept. 5, at 4:30 p.m., followed by a contest against Boise State Sunday, Sept. 7, at 11 a.m.
