Leigh Swanson (Mountlake Terrace, Wash.), a junior on the Seattle University men's basketball team, has been named this week's Featured Student-Athlete on GoSeattleU.com for his top-notch performance both on the court and in the classroom.
Appearing in all 27 games for Seattle University this season, including 13 starts, Swanson averaged 7.8 points and 4.4 rebounds per game, shooting 49.4 percent (79-of-160) from the field and 71.6 percent (48-of-67) from the free throw line. He reached double figures in scoring 11 times this season, including a season-high 17 points in the Redhawks' season-opening victory over Humboldt State (92-80) on Nov. 16.
During the 2006-07 season, Swanson started all 29 games, averaging 12.4 points and 5.4 rebounds per game as Seattle University advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. He scored a career-high 23 points at Colorado Christian on Nov. 24 and notched two games with 20 points and 10 or more rebounds during the year. He will enter his final season at Seattle University with 756 career points and 381 career rebounds.
Academically, Swanson is a marketing major with a 3.417 grade point average. Swanson is a two-time Academic All-GNAC selection and earned second team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District honors in 2007. He will be one of the team's key players as Seattle University begins the process of returning to Division I.
