SEATTLE – (Aug. 31) Seattle U volleyball makes its Connolly Complex debut Friday night, hosting Cal Poly at 6 p.m. in the first match of the SU/UW Tournament. The Redhawks also travel up I5 to face No. 8 Washington at Alaska Airlines Arena on Saturday at noon, then return home to host Santa Clara at 6 p.m.

NEWS AND NOTES

  • The Redhawks opened the 2017 season going 1-2 at the Cal Molten Classic. They won, 3-1, against Loyola-Chicago, then fell 3-0 to UC Irvine and 3-1 to Cal.
  • Katarina Glavinic and Victoria Demmene were selected to the Cal Molten Classic All-Tournament Team. Glavinic averaged 1.91 kills per set on a .500 hitting percentage and 0.82 blocks per set. Demmene averaged 2.00 kps and 1.50 digs per set.
  • Katarina Marinkovic led the way with 3.64 kps, Maja Stojanovic had 1.00 blocks per set and Shae Harris averaged 9.18 assists per set.
  • Seattle U has a pair of Preseason All-WAC players in Katarina Marinkovic and Maja Stojanovic. Marinkovic is the reigning WAC Freshman of the Year.
  • Junior setter Shae Harris, a Vancouver, B.C. native, spent the summer playing with the Canadian National Team.
  • Head Coach James Finley enters his fifth season at the helm of the Redhawk program.
  • The 2016 squad went 13-15 overall and 6-8 in WAC play.
  • Cal Poly opened the season with three straight sets victories at the NIU Holiday Inn Express Invitational. Adlee Van Winden led the way with 5.11 kps. Her sister Torry Van Winden averages 3.89 kps.
  • Washington enters the week ranked No. 8 in the latest AVCA poll. The Huskies are 2-1 and have been led thus far by Courtney Schwan's 3.40 kps.
  • Santa Clara opened the year by going 2-1 at the D.C Volleyball Invitational. Sophomore Michelle Gajdka paced the Broncos with 3.43 kps through the first three matches.
