SEATTLE - (Mar. 1) Seattle Univerity closes out the 2016-17 regular-season on Saturday, Mar. 4, traveling to face Utah Valley University. Tip off from the UCCU Center in Orem, Utah, is set for 7 p.m. MT, 6 p.m. PT. The game will be streamed live on the WAC DIgital Network and can be heard live on KTTH 770 AM (mynorthwest.com).

WHERE THEY STAND
As Seattle U enters its final regular-season game, the team sits at 13-15 overall and 5-8 in WAC play, good for fifth place in the league standings. CSUB has clinched the WAC regular-season title (12-1), New Mexico State (10-3) and Grand Canyon are tied for second (10-3) and UMKC is fourth (7-6). Seeding for the WAC Tournament in March, which will feature seven of the league’s eight teams (Grand Canyon is not eligible for postseason until 2017-18 due to their NCAA DI transition process) will be determined by the regular-season standings. Seattle U  and UVU enter the final game with idential overall and WAC records. Regardless of Saturday’s result, the teams will face each other in the 4/5 game next Thursday. The first day of tournament action pits No. 4 vs. No. 5, No. 2 vs. No. 7 and No. 3 vs. No. 6. Tournament play begins March 9 at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas.

THE LATEST
The Redhawks went 1-1 in last weekend’s WAC road swing, completing the home-and-home sweep against UTRGV with an 86-77 win in Texas. On Saturday, Seattle U fell 86-53 at New Mexico State. Morgan Means led the team with 13 points in the setback while Scott Ulaneo chipped in 12 points. It marked just the second time all season that Means has led the team in scoring while Ulaneo matched his career-high with the dozen points. The weekend outcomes stayed in trend for the Redhawks who are now 9-1 when scoring 80 points or more and 0-8 when scoring less than 60.

ABOUT THE SERIES VS UTAH VALLEY
Seattle U and Utah Valley are meeting for the 14th time, with the Redhawks holding a slight 8-5 series edge, including the past four straight. In this season’s first match-up on Homecoming at KeyArena, the Redhawks rode a 32-18 halftime lead on their way to a 63-50 victory. The Seattle U defense held UVU to just five first-half field goals (16.7%) while shooting a solid 50% themselves. Matej Kavas came off the bench to score a game-high 18 points while William Powell and Brendan Westendorf chipped in 13 and 11, respectively.

The teams played a pair of close games in 2015-16, with the Redhawks winning 73-62 in Orem and 72-69 at KeyArena. The latter victory came on Brendan Westendorf’s second buzzer-beater of the season, this one snapping a 69-69 tie and propelling SU to victory on Senior Night. The teams first met during the 2009-10 season, with Seattle U winning both meetings: 66-63 at KeyArena and 74-64 at the UCCU Center. In 2010-11, Utah Valley earned its first victory of the series in Orem, 89-73, before Seattle U took the rematch in Seattle, 63-57. Utah Valley swept the season series in 2011-12 with two victories in the span of a week: 77-72 in Orem and 84-74 in Seattle. After a one-year break, the two teams started their conference rivalry in 2013-14, with Utah Valley winning the first meeting in Orem, 52-51, and Seattle U winning the rematch at KeyArena, 71-57. In 2014-15, the Wolverines won the first meeting at the UCCU Center, 70-52. In the rematch at KeyArena, Seattle U stifled the Wolverine offense in a 53-33 victory.

WAC TOURNEY TICKETS ON SALE
Tickets for the 2017 WAC Men's and Women's Basketball Tournament are on sale now. The tournament begins Wednesday, March 8 with the women's first round of play, followed by a full day of men's action on Thursday, March 9.
