In their final match of the 2009 season, the Seattle University women's soccer team was edged 2-1 by the University of San Diego Sunday afternoon. After conceding two goals, sophomore Kassandra Riozzi led the SU offensive attack to get on the board. The Redhawk midfielder guided the ball through the USD defense from 15 yards out and shot in her first goal of the season at 62:05 minute mark.

Despite Riozzi bringing the game to a one-goal deficit, SeattleU was unable to follow up their lone goal with any serious scoring opportunities. The Marysville, Wash. native was the only SU player to tally offensive stats in the contest, with two shots on goal.

While the Redhawk offense struggled to create solid scoring chances, the Seattle defense was kept on the toes all afternoon. The SU backline was consistently pressured by the Torero strikers, who pushed deep into the Seattle half. USD fired off a staggering 22 shots in the game, including 14 on goal. Feeling the heat from San Diego, goalkeeper Madison Goverde remained composed, as the sophomore tallied 12 saves in the game. Much credit is due to Goverde and the SeattleU defense, as they prevented the Torero offense from getting on the board more than twice.

With the loss, SU concludes the season with a 7-11-1 overall record. It was the final collegiate contest for seniors Jamie Coe, Kate Edstrom, Jamie Peterson and M'ily Reiter.
