Morehouse Qualifies For US Nationals at UC Davis Dual Meet

The Seattle University men's and women's swimming team fell in their dual meet at UC Davis Saturday afternoon. The men's squad dropped a 132-102 decision to the Aggies, while the UCD women defeated the Redhawks' women's team 144-88. Swimmer Alexis Morehouse led SeattleU with her SU record-breaking time of 2:18.44 in the 200 yard breaststroke. With the victory and record-breaking time, the Redhawk women's swimmer qualified for US Nationals. She is the lone Redhawk to reach that feat thus far.

The 22-event meet saw many bright spots for the SU swim teams. On the men's side, Jordan Anderson took the first Redhawk victory of the day with a 50 yard freestyle time of 20.91. Anderson also earned a second first-place finish in the 100 yard free, where he out swam the competition with a time of 46.44.

Bryson Chui earned a first-place finish in the 200 yard IM. He swam the race in a time of 1:55.70. He followed up that performance with a second race victory in the 200 yard breaststroke. Chiu swam the race in a time of 2:07.05.

In the 200 yard fly, Seattle's Eric Pedack took a top-finish in the event with a race time of 1:57.63 to conclude the top SU individual men's finishes on the day.

In the team relays, SU took a one-two finish in the 400 yard free. Anderson, Chris Fulton, Kalani Kaula and Jeff Tibbals earned a first-place finish with a time of 3:09.98. Following their teammates, the foursome of Chris Lynch, Tyler Carriker, Andrew Martinez and Chase Winterroth followed with a second-place time of 3:18.79.

On the women's squad, Elizabeth Hanohano earned the Redhawk women's first victory of the afternoon in the 100 yard free with a time of 54.22. 

The Redhawk women rounded out the day with a first-place finish in the 400 yard freestyle relay race. The four-swimmer team of Hanohano, Briley Boggs, Hayley Cobb and Hanna Basler finished with a time of 3:37.89. Following the first-place team, was the SeattleU team of Karla Ruff, Casey Hoffman, Connie Rae Shobaken and Rachel Leighter, who concluded the race with a time of 3:50.51 for second place.

Seattle dives back into action on Friday, Nov. 6, in Provo, Utah. They will square off with BYU, New Mexico and Boise State in the 6 p.m. MT meet.
