Scouting UC Davis: UC Davis had a successful 2012 season, going 10-7-4 overall and 8-4 in Big West Conference play, but fell to Cal State Northridge in the championship game of the BWC tournament. Last weekend, they narrowly lost two matches on the road to open up the season, falling 1-0 at Portland on Aug. 30 and 2-0 at Oregon State on Sept. 1. Alex Aguiar leads the squad with nine shots so far this season, as Omar Zeenni has played all 180 minutes in goal. In his 17th season at the helm, head coach Dwayne Shaffer has produced 17 All-Region team members and 12 First Team All-Conference selections over his career.

Scouting Sacramento State: The Hornets are currently 1-0 after topping San Jose State to open the season on Aug. 30. Junior Chimdum Mez scored the winning goal in second overtime to win the match. Cesar Castillo recorded the shutout in goal for Sacramento State, making three saves. Last season, the Hornets finished third in the Big West Conference North Region standings, with an 8-8-2 overall record, going 5-4-1 in conference play. Head coach Michael Linenberger, in his 25th season, led Sacramento State through a similar NCAA Division I transition in 1991 as the Redhawks recently went through.

Leaders of the WAC (As of Sept. 3): In Western Athletic Conference statistics, Seattle U leads the league in saves (15), is tied for first in goals (3) and goals per game (1.5) and ranks second in points (7).
