Seattle University athletic director Bill Hogan announces the hiring of Jennifer Park as the head coach of Seattle U women’s rowing. Park served as the interim head coach during the spring 2013 season after the departure of former head coach Portia McGee, whose husband received a position with the U.S. National Team.

“I am very excited to continue my coaching career here at SU, to keep moving forward in building a successful program, and to give these athletes an unforgettable experience,” said Park.

Park is a 2010 graduate of the University of Washington, where she rowed all four years as a varsity athlete. In 2008, she had an undefeated season which included Pac-10 and NCAA National Championship titles.

Upon graduating, she moved to Princeton, NJ to train with the U.S. National Rowing Team before moving back to Seattle in the summer of 2011. Upon returning home, she accepted the novice assistant coaching position at UW in 2011 before taking the assistant coaching position at SU in 2012.

“Jenny has done an excellent job for Seattle U rowing on an interim basis,” said Hogan. “She has terrific roots in the highly successful UW women’s rowing program and we look forward to her becoming a permanent part of the Redhawk athletic community.”

Leading the Redhawks through their inaugural spring season as an NCAA Division I varsity program, Park proved her resilience, passion, and leadership skills. The novice 8+ won the petite finals and the varsity 8+ qualified for the grand finals at the WIRAs (Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association), and will look to build upon this success during the 2013-14 season.
