Seattle University women’s basketball’s Kacie Sowell (Ventura, Calif.) has been named the College Sports Madness Western Athletic Conference Player of the Week (Feb. 11-17). Sowell led the team in scoring as they went 2-0 over the weekend in conference play. This is her second such honor of the season, also named for the week of Dec. 31-Jan. 6, and the team’s fourth, as Sylvia Shephard (Alta Loma, Calif.) has also received the honor twice.

“Kacie was solid and was on a roll this weekend,” said head coach Joan Bonvicini. “She is an outstanding representative of our basketball program and university.”

The Redhawks swept Louisiana Tech, 87-74, on Feb. 14 and UT Arlington, 78-64, on Feb. 16 on the road over the weekend. They extended their current winning streak to four games and improved to 15-9 overall and 12-3 in conference action.

Sowell recorded her 13th double-double of the season at UT Arlington on Feb. 16, with 23 points and 12 rebounds. She led the team with a career-high 26 points at Louisiana Tech on Feb. 14. She has now scored in double figures in 22 of 24 games this season, including the last 14 straight games.

Over the weekend, she averaged 24.5 points per game and 7.5 rebounds per game, shooting 57.7 percent from the field and 86.4 percent from the free-throw line.

Seattle U returns home for their final three regular season home games, starting on Thursday, Feb. 28 at 7 p.m. as they host Texas State. They host UT San Antonio on Saturday, Mar. 2 before wrapping up the regular season vs. Idaho on Mar. 9. The Redhawks then travel to Las Vegas for the WAC Tournament on Mar. 12-16.
