Easton Desert Classic: After winning four straight games, including two versus major conference opponents, Seattle University softball (4-1) currently leads the Western Athletic Conference in overall record. The Redhawks fell to BYU, 10-0, in game one on the weekend before topping Oklahoma State, 3-2, Southern Utah, 6-4, Utah, 6-3, and Weber State, 5-0. The Redhawks travel to Las Vegas, Nev. for the Easton Desert Classic where they will rematch Utah and face other tough opponents. On Friday, Feb. 15, they face host-team UNLV (1:30 p.m.) and Utah (6 p.m.). On Saturday, Feb. 16, they play No. 19 UCLA (11:15 a.m.) and Louisiana Monroe (1:30 p.m.). Hardy Named to CollegeSoftball360 Honor Roll (Feb. 7-10): For her performance over opening weekend, Rogin Hardy was named to the 16-person CollegeSoftball360 Honor Roll. She started all five games as the Redhawks went 4-1, averaging .429 at the plate as well as .857 slg% and .529 ob%. Over the weekend, she scored three runs on six hits in 14 at bats, as well as hitting three doubles and a home run, also recording four RBIs.

Scouting UNLV: In 2012, the Rebels finished 22-27 including 3-9 in conference. UNLV went 2-3 over opening weekend this season with wins over Louisville, 10-1, and UCF, 12-10, in eight innings. Alyssa Cordova and Samantha Henry each hit .500 over the weekend, each making two appearances. In the circle, Amanda Oliveto finished the weekend with a 2-1 record and a 2.67 ERA, allowing 13 runs on 17 hits in 18 1/3 innings of work. Lisa Dodd is at the helm of the Rebels squad.

Last Time Out: Seattle U last faced UNLV twice at the UNLV Pre-Conference Roundup in Las Vegas on Apr. 1-2, 2011. They split the meeting in two five inning games as the Rebels won the first, 9-0, and the Redhawks won the second, 16-8.

Scouting Utah: Last season, Utah finished 28-28 overall and 2-22 in conference play in their first season in the Pac-12. The Utes went 2-3 on their opening weekend at the Red Desert Classic as they won their first two games (8-4 vs. South Dakota and 9-3 vs. Loyola Marymount) before losing their final three, including a 6-3 loss to Seattle U on Feb. 9. Chalese Fankhauser batted .429, starting all five games, and recorded three runs on six hits as well as two doubles, one triple, one home run and three RBIs. Kayce Nieto posted a 2.10 ERA allowing just one run on four hits in 3 1/3 innings pitched. In her fifth season, head coach Amy Hogue has a 135-140 (.491) record at Utah and a 332-225 (.596) overall career coaching record.

Last Time Out: The Redhawks defeated the Utes last weekend at the Red Desert Classic, 6-3, on Feb. 9. Utah took the early lead, 2-0, in the third and fourth innings before the Redhawks tied it up on a 2RBI single by Isabella Geronimo in the fifth inning. In the bottom of the inning, Utah regained the lead, 3-2, but Seattle U’s powerful offensive output would score four runs in the top of the seventh to take the win, 6-3. Mandie Sugita recorded the complete game win, allowing just three runs on six hits while walking three and striking out two.The Redhawks outhit the Utes, 12-6.

Scouting No. 19 UCLA: This will be the first ranked team the Redhawks will face this season. In 2012, the Bruins finished 36-20 with a 12-12 Pac-12 record. Stephany LaRosa led the team with a .436 avg., starting all 56 games, and recording 48 runs on 79 hits as well as 10 doubles, three triples, 17 home runs, and 61 RBIs. UCLA finished their first weekend of competition with a 3-1 record, defeating Wright State, 1-0, McNeese State, 5-4, and Wright State, 8-0, before falling to Texas A&M, 7-6. Gracie Goulder started all four games for UCLA, batting .500 and scoring three runs on six hits as well as hitting two doubles, a home run, and recording two RBIs. Ally Carda posted a 2.84 ERA in 12 1/3 innings of work, recording a 2-0 record, allowing just five runs on 14 hits. The Bruins are led by Kelly Inouye-Perez in her seventh season, who boasts a 258-89 (.744) overall record.

Last Time Out: This will be the first ever meeting between the two teams.

Scouting Louisiana Monroe:
In 2012, Louisiana Monroe finished 25-26 overall including 9-15 in the Sun Belt Conference. The Warhawks went 3-1 last weekend as they topped Grambling State, 8-0, SE Missouri State, 5-1, and Wichita State, 3-1. Mackenzie Miller led the team with a .857 avg. in four starts, including three runs on six hits as well as two triples and an RBI. In the circle, Stephanie Routzon and Savannah Dollar each recorded a 0.00 ERA. Head coach Rosemary Holloway-Hill, the dean of coaches at ULM, has won 700+ games, more than any other coach in the university’s history, over the past 28 years at the helm.

Last Time Out: This will be the first ever meeting between the two teams.

Scouting Oregon State:
Last season, the Beavers finished 36-23 including a 9-14 Pac-12 record. They were led by Elizabeth Santana with a .344 record, starting all 59 games, and recording 36 runs on 64 hits as well as seven doubles, three triples, five home runs, and 41 RBIs. Last weekend, Oregon State went 3-3, with wins over Stephen F. Austin, 9-0, Northwestern, 7-3, and San Jose State, 1-0. They were defeated by Oklahoma, 14-2, Creighton, 5-3, and Kentucky, 5-3. Natalie Hampton batted .421, starting all six games, and recorded four runs on eight hits as well as a double, two home runs, and nine RBIs. In the circle, Marina Demore recorded a 2.04 ERA and a 3-1 record, allowing 11 runs on 25 hits in 24 innings pitched, striking out 14. Leading the Beavers is Laura Berg in her first season as head coach after serving as an assistant coach in 2012.
Last Time Out: Seattle U last faced Oregon State on Mar. 11, 2011 at the Husky Softball Classic, taking the Beavers to eight innings, but falling 5-2.
