San Jose, Calif. -

Braving wet conditions thanks to overnight rain, the SU women’s golf team kicked off the Santa Clara Colby Invitational Monday, playing the first of two rounds at Silver Creek Valley Country Club in San Jose, Calif.

Coming off a Top 15 finish in her last tournament, Lori Pearson (Seattle, Wash.) again is leading the Seattle U squad, shooting 5-over-par 77 Monday. Two shots back, Clare Sorensen (Roseville, Calif.) is in a tie for 20th after an opening round of 7-over 79.

Christine Cook (Yakima, Wash.), playing in her second consecutive tournament, carded a 10-over-par 82 to stand in a tie for 40th, while Juhee Lee (Manhatten, Ore.) is just one stroke behind that mark at 11-over 83 and tied for 45th.

Monica Keo (Oahu, Hawaii) rounds out the SU roster shooting 16-over-par 88, good for a tie for 63rd place.

Collectively, Seattle U has a team score of 321, 33 strokes over par, and lies in eighth place. UC Riverside has the team lead with a tally of 13-over-par 301, while CSU Northridge’s Clariss Guce has a two-stroke lead after shooting 2-under-par 70 during the first round.

Round two action will start at 8:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 22. Tuesday’s round of 18 will conclude the 36-hole tournament.
