Seattle University women's soccer (7-7-1, 2-2-1) traveled to face San Jose State (4-10-1, 2-4-0) for the first time as conference foes, and fell to the Spartans, 2-1.

An even contest throughout the first half, with Seattle U outshooting San Jose State, 6-5, neither team was able to put points on the board, and the score remained 0-0 at the halftime break.

In the 47th minute, Megan Molina scored her second goal of the season, unassisted, to put the Spartans ahead, 1-0.

San Jose State added to their tally in the 76th minute, as Rachel Docherty, assisted by Gabriella Stange, scored her first goal of the season off a corner kick.

The Redhawks refused to go down without a fight and Julia Besagno (Maple Valley, Wash.) scored her first goal of the season on a penalty kick in the 87th minute. However, the 2-1 margin was too much for them to overcome, and this proved to be the final score.

Melissa Busque (St. Bruno, Quebec, Canada), Kat Prati (Moorpark, Calif.), and Stephanie Verdoia (Salt Lake City, Utah) each led Seattle U with two shots apiece.

In goal, Brianna Smallidge (Port Orchard, Wash.) recorded four saves in the complete game. For the Spartans, Zoe Makrigiannis also recorded four saves in the complete game victory.

With just three regular season games remaining, the Redhawks play their final road game at Louisiana Tech on Friday, Oct. 19 at 5 p.m. PT. They then return home for the last weekend of the regular season, hosting New Mexico State on Friday, Oct. 26 at 3 p.m. and Denver on Sunday, Oct. 28 at 12 p.m.
