The Seattle University men’s golf team took fourth at the
Firestone Grill Cal Poly Invite, finishing the tournament’s last two rounds
Tuesday at the Monarch Dunes Golf Club in Nipomo, Calif.
Colter Morton (Pocatello, Idaho) led the way for the
Redhawks, tying for 11th with a three-round total of 216, six
strokes over par. He fired an even-par 70 in the final round today, his best
individual round total of the year, and the top-15 finish is his highest for
Seattle U.
Will Holdridge (Lynden, Wash.) fired a final-round 73 to
finish at 218 strokes, eight strokes over par. He finished in a tie for 18th,
his highest finish this season. Just one stroke above Holdridge sits Rob Seibly
(Spokane, Wash.), at 9-over-par 219. Seibly shot a two-over-par 72 in the final
round and tied for 20th, his second straight top-25 finish.
Preston Matchett (Billings, Mont.) also fired a final-round
72 to finish at 15-over-par 225. Matchett tied for 35th in the
tournament, while David Torres (Armenia, Colombia) finished up with an
8-over-par 78 Tuesday, ending the tournament at 21-over-par 231. He tied for 48th
place.
As a team, the Redhawks took fourth with a collective score
of 875, 35 strokes above par. Host Cal Poly took the team title at 7-over-par
274 thanks to a strong final-round push while Jonathan Garrick of UCLA carded
three-straight 67’s to win the tournament at 201 strokes, nine strokes under
par.
The Redhawks next hit the links Sunday, October 21 through
Tuesday, October 23 at the Bill Cullum Invitational held at Wood Ranch Golf
Club in Simi Valley, Calif.
