Women's Golf Holds Team, Individual Lead in Rose City

Aurora, Ore. - 

The Seattle University women’s golf team got off to a roaring start in their first tournament of the year Monday, taking a 13-stroke lead after two rounds of the Rose City Collegiate held at Langdon Farms Golf Club in Aurora, Ore.

Freshman Clare Sorensen (Roseville, Calif.) has the individual lead at her first collegiate tournament after turning in rounds of 1-under-par 71 and even-par 72 Monday. She holds a combined score of 143, one stroke under par, and a one stroke lead heading into the final round.

Monica Keo (Oahu, Hawaii) sits in fifth after carding an even-par 72 and 4-over 76. She is four over par for the tournament and two strokes ahead of teammate Lori Pearson (Seattle, Wash.), who is tied for sixth with a two-round total of 150, six strokes over par.

Nicole Gaddie (Salt Lake City, Utah) is tied for 25th after turning in scores of 8-over-par 80 and 4-over-par 76 during the opening day of the tournament. She has a combined score of 156, 12 strokes above par., while freshman Juhee Lee (Manhatten, Ore.) rounds out the Redhawks’ team squad with a score of 158, 14 strokes above par. She sits in a tie for 34th after an opening-round of 5-over-par 77 and 9-over-par 81.

Christine Cook (Yakima, Wash.) is competing as an individual at the Rose City Collegiate. She is in a tie for 57th at 163 shots, 19 strokes over par after rounds of 83 and 80 on the day.

As a team, Seattle U has a combined score of 594, 18 strokes above par. The squad holds a 13 stroke lead over its next-closest competitor, Oregon State, who sits at 31-over-par 607.

“My assistant coach and I knew we had a special group of women,” said Seattle U head coach Marc Chadonnet after the second round. “We still have some work to do to finish off the event but we are excited to be in this position.”

Tee times for Tuesday, October 2nd’s second round begin at 8:00 a.m., but the first Redhawk won’t hit the links until 9:30 a.m., when Lee tees off on hole No. 1.
