Cheney, Wash. -

The Seattle University men’s tennis team concluded play at the EWU Fall Invite Sunday, winning two brackets of the tournament held in Cheney, Wash.

Kyle Rapp (Encinitas, Calif.) took the white flight’s consolation bracket title by winning two matches on the day. He took down Zach Lubek of Portland State 6-2, 6-2 in his semifinal contest, setting up for a showdown with Zach Drost from Montana in the final. Drost took the first set in the final, but Rapp fought back and took the second to force a tiebreak. Rapp came out victorious in the tiebreak, taking the match 3-6, 6-3, 1-0(7) and winning the bracket.

Kevin Lynch (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Jason Bediones (Kent, Wash.) were also in action for Seattle U, playing in the final of the doubles draw consolation. The SU duo faced off against Filip Fichtel and Jake Knox from Idaho and won 9-8 for that bracket’s title.

The team of Braun and Torres from Montana won the doubles draw, while Idaho’s Matt Oddonetto took the white bracket title. The champion of the red bracket will be decided Tuesday afternoon, September 25 at Gonzaga as the Bulldogs’ Alvaro Nazal and Olivier Jamin will square off in the draw’s final match.

The Seattle U men’s tennis team returns to action Friday, Oct. 5 when they travel to Boise, Idaho for the three-day Boise State Fall Classic.
