Seattle University women’s soccer sophomore
Taylor Ritzman (Holladay, Utah) has been named the Western Athletic Conference
Offensive Player of the Week for the week of Aug. 20-26. This is the second
straight WAC Offensive Player of the Week for Seattle U to start the 2012
season.
“Taylor had a solid preseason for us and it
was apparent she put in some work this summer,” said head coach Julie Woodward.
“She is extremely athletic and is a very composed player. It was really great
to see her have that success on Sunday. Her goals were fantastic.”
Ritzman had a hat trick in Sunday’s game
versus Eastern Washington, scoring all three goals for the Redhawks. She scored
the first two goals within 25 seconds of each other and scored all three in 31
minutes of play. Three of Ritzman’s four goals for the season have come within
just three minutes of entering the match.
Louisiana Tech’s Mo Rockwell and Caitlin
Updyke were named WAC Defensive Player of the Week and Goalkeeper of the Week,
respectively.
After two weekends of play, Seattle U is
currently tied for fourth (with Idaho) with a 2-2-0 record. Louisiana Tech,
Utah State, and Denver hold the top three spots in the conference after week
two.
The Redhawks continue their homestand on
Sunday, Sept. 2, hosting Portland State at 1 p.m. at Championship Field.
