RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Freshman Sofia Sanchez notched her ninth double-digit kills output of the season, but Seattle University volleyball dropped a four-set decision at Western Athletic Conference leader California Baptist Saturday afternoon in Riverside, Calif.
Sanchez tallied 14 kills and hit .216 for the match to lead three Redhawks (8-13, 1-7 WAC) in double-figures. Senior Maja Stojanovic added 11 kills while freshman Julia Queiroz collected 11 kills on 16 swings with just one error for a .625 hitting percentage. Queiroz also added a team-high five blocks.
The Redhawks came out firing in the first set, hitting .325 on their way to a commanding 25-13 win over the Lancers (17-5, 8-2 WAC). But the home team responded with a lopsided 25-14 win of their own, then went on to grind out 28-26 and 25-21 wins in the third and fourth sets.
The Redhawks remain on the road for their next two matches, beginning Oct. 25 at Utah Valley. First serve is set for 6 p.m. Pacific and the match will stream on the WAC Digital Network.
