LOUISVILLE, Ky. – (May 16) Madison Cathcart of Seattle University softball has been named 2018 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) First Team All-Pacific Region, according to a release announced Thursday morning. Cathcart set eight single-season program records this year, helping the Redhawks to their most successful campaign in their Division I history.
The sophomore was voted as the top first baseman in the Pacific Region this season. The region features several of the top teams in the nation, including Oregon and Washington, who are both in the top five nationally in 2018.
Cathcart earned First Team All-Western Athletic Conference (WAC) honors last week and also picked up WAC All-Tournament Team accolades at New Mexico State.
The native of Longview, Wash., paced the WAC in batting average (.444), on-base percentage (.596), and slugging percentage (.954) in 2018. She also led the league in doubles (20), walks (53), and putouts (496). She set Seattle U records in all six categories, along with home runs (19) and extra-base hits (39).
Cathcart is the first Redhawk to be named NFCA All-Region. She is one of just six WAC players to be chosen this year. Cathcart will now move to the NFCA All-American ballot, with those teams due to be announced on May 30.
