OREM, Utah – (May 12) Seattle University baseball kept pace in the Western Athletic Conference standings with a pair of wins over Utah Valley Saturday at UCCU Ballpark in Orem, Utah. The Redhawks won game one, 4-1, before erupting for a 13-2, eight-inning win in the nightcap.
The doubleheader sweep gives the Redhawks (32-17, 13-7 WAC) the series win over the Wolverines (14-33, 5-15 WAC) and keeps them in fourth place in the league standings.
Tarik Skubal turned in a dominant performance on the mound in the opener, fanning 10 in seven complete innings for his seventh win of the season. The redshirt junior allowed just four hits and two walks for one earned run. Zach Wolf struck out three in the final two frames for his ninth save of the year.
The Redhawk offense got off to a quick start, scoring a pair of runs on one hit and two errors on the top of the first. They also added single runs in the second and third on a Chase Wells RBI-single and a Curtis Perrin sacrifice fly.
In the nightcap, the Redhawks led 4-2 through six complete innings before exploding for a combined nine runs in the seventh and eighth innings.
Jake Prizina improved to 7-0 on the season in yet another solid pitching performance for Seattle U. The junior lefty fanned five while scattering five hits and one walk for two runs in 6.1 innings. Nathan Bonck pitched the final 1.2 innings, striking out two.
The Redhawks and Wolverines will conclude play on Sunday at 11 a.m. Mountain Time, 10 a.m. Pacific.
