LAS CRUCES, N.M. – (May 9) Seattle University softball fell, 7-1, to Kansas City in the first round of the 2018 Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Tournament Wednesday night. Madison Cathcart and Kaylee Ree each tallied two hits in the contest at steamy NM State Softball Complex.

”We had a bad game tonight,” said Coach Geoff Hirai. “Our backs are against the wall and we have to come out and fight tomorrow.”

The Roos (14-39) scored three times in the fourth and added four more in the fifth, taking charge of the contest.

In the bottom of the fifth, Cherise Silvan drew a leadoff walk. She advanced to second on a groundout. Nicole Bolasky then singled on the infield, and a Roo error allowed Silvan to come in for a run.

Cathcart singled and Ree doubled to start the sixth, but UMKC again got out of the jam, keeping SU (33-22) off the board.

Tomorrow, the Redhawks will face the loser of tomorrow’s New Mexico State/Grand Canyon game. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. Mountain/3 p.m. Pacific at the NM State Softball Complex.
