SEATTLE – (March 12) Seattle University women’s basketball will travel to Oregon, the second seed in the Spokane Region, for the first round of the NCAA Tournament this weekend. The Redhawks, Western Athletic Conference (WAC) champions for the first time, earned the 15th seed in the region and will play the Ducks on Friday, March 16, at 4:30 p.m. at Matthew Knight Arena. The game will air on ESPN2.

SU (18-14) will travel to Eugene as part of a four-team sub-regional. Oregon will host the Redhawks after Minnesota and Green Bay square off in a 7-10 game at 2 p.m.

Seattle U claimed its first-ever WAC Championship on Saturday, beating CSU Bakersfield, 57-54, at The Orleans Arena. It became just the second team seeded lower than third to win the WAC Championship, joining New Mexico (1998) as four seeds to win the tournament.

Oregon won the Pac-12 this season, going 30-4. Sabrina Ionescu leads the Ducks with 19.4 points and 7.7 assists per game. She leads the nation with five triple-doubles this season. Ruthie Hebard is next with 17.5 points and 8.8 rebounds per game. Three other Ducks average double-digit points per game.
