DAVIS, Calif. – (March 11) The Seattle University men’s tennis team closed out the Golden State Invitational with a 4-3 loss to Saint Mary’s on Sunday morning at the Marya Welch Tennis Center.

It was a close match, as the Redhawks were able to get the doubles points with wins at #2 and #3. After losing the first match at #1, SU picked up wins from Matt Alderson and Jeremiah Kalmus at #2 (6-3), and Arshak Ghazaryan and Emilio Monroy at #3 (6-3) for the point.

In singles, Monroy picked up a 6-3, 6-1 win in the fourth flight and Alex Chan took his match 4-6, 6-1, 7-5 in the sixth flight, but Seattle U was unable to get enough for the match. Saint Mary’s won four singles matches to clinch the victory and seventh place in the tournament.

“Today was our best day energy-wise,” head coach Adam Reeb said. “We played well to take the doubles but just couldn’t finish the match in singles. It was a tough weekend results-wise but we got to play three very good teams outdoors, so it was good preparation for WAC play later this month. We’ve got a good team here so we’re just focused on improving and building the positives of this weekend.
