BELLEVUE, Wash. – (Feb. 25) Seattle University baseball closed out its four-game series against visiting Rhode Island with a 4-2 defeat at Bannerwood Park Sunday afternoon.

The teams split the series, 2-2, as the Redhawks move to 5-3 on the season while the Rams now sit at 2-5.

Trailing 4-0 late in the game, the Redhawks looked to mount a comeback, rallying for a pair of runs in the eighth. Jake Cosgrove and Dalton Hurd both singled and Cosgrove would score Seattle U's first run on a Jack Reisinger fielder's choice. Hurd would go on to score on a wild pitch, but the rally would end their as Drake Maningo struck out swinging to end the inning.

The Redhawks got a pair of runners on in the ninth as Austin Lively and Curtis Perrin knocked back-to-back singles into the outfield. But the duo would be stranded as URI closer Nick Johnson induced a strikeout and fly out to end the game.

Seattle u starter Jarrod Billig lasted just two innings as Rhode Island scored three runs in the second on four hits and a Redhawk fielding error. Tyler Oldenberg entered in relief in the top of the third and went on to fan three, walk two and give up three hits for one run. Austin Hansen and Tyler Yeh pitched the final 3.2 scoreless innings.

Lively and Hurd collected three this apiece, while Cameron Sterne went 2-for-2 at the plate. The Redhawks finished with 11 hits to URI's nine, but stranded 11 on base.

The Redhawks hit the road next week, traveling to Eugene, Ore., to face Oregon on Tuesday, then to Kissimmee, Fla., where they will take on Seton Hall, Youngstown State and Notre Dame in the Irish Classic Mar. 2-4.
