DENVER – (Jan. 1) Alexis Montgomery is the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Player of the Week, for the period running from Dec. 25-31. The senior has now won three WAC weekly honors this season.
The native of Beaverton, Ore., registered 24 points and tied a season high with 13 rebounds in a close setback at CSUN Dec. 30. It marked Montgomery’s ninth double-double of the season and her seventh in her last eight outings. She added three assists and three steals in 39 minutes of play.
On the season, Montgomery continues to light up the national statistical rankings. Her 327 points are fifth-most in the nation. She stands fourth in made field goals (129), sixth in double-doubles (9), and first in attempted field goals (290). She ranks 13th in rebounds (154) and 24th in minutes played (515) this season. Montgomery paces the WAC in nine statistical categories, including free throw percentage (83.7). She has scored at least 12 points and claimed at least six rebounds in all 15 games this season.
Montgomery has won three WAC weekly awards this season and five in her career. In her career, she has 1,201 points, 11th-most in program history. She needs 35 points to match Sylvia Shephard for 10th on the all-time scoring list.
Seattle U (6-9) won twice as many non-conference games as last season. It begins WAC play on Saturday, Jan. 6, at Grand Canyon.
