EDINBURG, Texas – (Nov. 2) A strong start had Seattle University volleyball teak the first two sets of play at Western Athletic Conference rival UTRGV Thursday night. But the Vaqueros would rally back to claim a 3-2 final over the Redhawks at UTRGV Fieldhouse.

Seattle U dropped to 9-15 overall and 5-6 in WAC play while the Vaqueros improved to 14-10 overall and 8-3 in league action.

The Redhawks got a match-high 21 kills from Katarina Marinkovic, who hit .357 for the match. The sophomore outside hitter also had 11 digs and five blocks. She would finish as the only Redhawk with double-figure kills as the team hit .151 for the match.

Shae Harris collected 40 assists, Tijana Milojevic had 16 digs and Katarina Glavinic led all players with eight block assists. The Redhawks held a 14.5-8.0 edge over UTRGV in blocks.

Ragni Steen Knudsen led UTRGV with 19 kills while two others reached double figures as the Vaqueros hit .231 for the match.

Seattle U took the first two sets by identical 25-21 scores. The Vaqueros rallied in the third set, quickly opening up an 8-3 lead before cruising to a 25-16 win. The fourth set would feature four tie scores and two lead changes before the home team escaped again with a 25-16 win.

In the fifth and final set, Seattle U trailed 7-5 following a big block by Marinkovic and Glavinic. But the Vaqueros’ Bojana Mitrovic and Knudsen had three kills each down the stretch, including three straight from Knudsen to end the match.

Seattle U plays its final road match of the regular season on Saturday, facing New Mexico State in Las Cruces, N.M. First serve is set for 12:00 p.m. Mountain Time, 11:00 a.m. Pacific.
