OAHU, Hawaii – (Aug. 29) Seattle University women’s soccer won, 2-0, at Hawaii Monday night. Natasha Howe and Jessie Ray scored as the Redhawks won their second straight game at the Outrigger Classic. Ray won Tournament MVP honors with a pair of goals in two contests.

“In the second half, we had a slight change in our formation, which enabled us to put better defensive pressure on the ball and enabled us to transition,” said Coach Julie Woodward. “It created more opportunities and we got more shots off. The team fought hard and grinded out a win.”

For the second consecutive outing, SU (2-2-0) played to a scoreless draw in the first half. Howe looked to change that in the second period, as she picked up a loose ball in the box and blasted a shot to the near post for a goal at 56:34.

In the 78th minute, the Redhawks were ready to close the door on the match. Stephanie Spiekerman’s free kick ended up at the feet at Ray, who scored for the third game in a row.

Mackenzie Curry claimed her second straight shutout with three saves in net. It marks her third career solo blanking.

Madeline Racine, Jennifer Plummer, and Isabelle Butterfield joined Ray on the all-tournament team.

SU returns to action on Monday, Sept. 4, as it travels to Idaho for another non-conference match.
