FULLERTON, Calif. – (Aug. 18) Seattle University women’s soccer fell, 2-0, at Cal State Fullerton in the 2017 opener Friday night. The Redhawks will look to bounce back in their home opener on Sunday.
“We started the game looking a little nervous,” said Coach Julie Woodward. “We made a couple mistakes that they capitalized on in the first 10 minutes. I was tremendously impressed with our effort, play, and improvement in the second half. We controlled most of that half and allowed no shots on goal.”
In the first half, the hosts struck early, as Atlanta Primus and Sarah Fajnor each scored in the first 10 minutes of the contest. SU tried to rally, as Isabelle Butterfield earned an opportunity and shot on net, but Fullerton was there for the save. The Redhawks recorded several other chances and three corner kicks, but Fullerton maintained a 2-0 advantage at halftime.
The second half saw neither team able to gain traction offensively. Hope Fleckner put a shot on goal midway through the frame, but Fullerton made the stop and went on to secure the decision.
Mackenzie Curry made a pair of saves in net for the Redhawks.
Seattle U (0-1-0) welcomes Oregon State for the 2017 home opener on Sunday night. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. at Championship Field.
