LAS CRUCES, N.M. - (April 29) One day after upsetting Chicago State in the opening round of the WAC Tournament, the Seattle U Women's Tennis team fought valiantly against top seeded UMKC before falling 4-1.

SU took two of three in doubles play as Michelle Lui and Madison Maloney defeated Melinda Johnson and Yana Grechkina 6-1, and Caroline Maltby and Kailyn Skjonsby got the best of Marina Albert and Aliona Ladutska 6-3.

Singles play turned out to be a different story as the Roos swept the Redhawks despite the no. 1 and no. 2 games going unfinished.

All in all though, Seattle U put forth an inspired performance against a very talented UMKC team and showed marked improvement from the beginning of conference play to the WAC Tournament.

Head coach Adam Reeb was very proud of his team's efforts in New Mexico.

"We just ran out of time today," said Reeb. "Congrats to UMKC on the win today and best of luck to them tomorrow. We came ready to play today, and it showed right from the start as we took the doubles point again.

We battled on every court in the singles, and we left everything we had out there. I'm so proud of this team and our season.

This is a fantastic group of young women who are just great people, and I love coaching them. Each student-athlete worked so hard this season and grew so much. I wanted to say a big thank you to our seniors Barbara Carey and Kailyn Skjonsby.

They left an indelible legacy at SU and we will miss them dearly. This program is a contender in the WAC, and it's all thanks to the efforts of our great student-athletes."
