Seattle University baseball (33-19, 19-6 WAC) took an early lead but a significant third inning for Sacramento State (29-24, 16-9 WAC) would be the difference maker as the Hornets picked up a 6-3 win in the series opener. Despite the loss and a NM State win, SU and NMSU are in a tie for the lead with two regular season contests left.

Lucas Denney (Goldendale, Wash.) scored in the second on a fielder’s choice after reaching base on a one-out single but Sacramento State scored four to take the lead, 4-1, in the third on four hits.

The Redhawks cut the deficit within one, 4-3, with a run apiece in the fourth and seventh on a ground out and a flyout but Sac State plated two more in the eighth on three hits to pull out the win.

Eight Redhawks were left on base throughout the contest, seven of which were left in scoring position.

Game two between the Redhawks and Hornets is set for Friday, May 20 at 7 p.m. Live stats are available by clicking HERE while fans can also listen to Jake Eastman's broadcast by clicking HERE.
