BELLEVUE, Wash. – UT Rio Grande Valley (18-20, 7-7 WAC) took an early 2-0 lead but Seattle University (27-15, 14-3 WAC) scored all five runs in the fifth inning or later to earn a 5-3 victory in the Western Athletic Conference contest.

Victor Garcia Jr. doubled home the first run in the second before Scott Mercer hit a two-out single in the third to give the Vaqueros a 2-0 lead through four and a half innings.

Griffin Andreychuk (Nanaimo, B.C., Canada) tied the game in the fifth with a two-RBI single with two outs before UTRGV regained the lead, 3-2, in the seventh on a Cole Loncar RBI single.

Andreychuk continued his offensive prowess in the seventh, regaining the Redhawk lead once again with a two-out two-run homer to left center to put SU ahead, 4-3. In the next inning, Sean Sutton (Coeur d’Alene, Idaho) scored the final run on a fielder’s choice to ensure the victory.

With his first-career four-RBI game, Andreychuk led Seattle U at the plate, batting 2-for-4 with a run scored.

On the mound, Grant Gunning (Snohomish, Wash.) picked up the win in one inning of work while Zach Wolf (Dana Hills, Calif.) picked up his eighth save of the season, second of the weekend.

The Redhawks look for the series sweep vs. the Vaqueros on Sunday, May 1 at 12 noon at Bannerwood Park in Bellevue.
