San Jose, Calif. -

The Seattle University men's soccer team ended the 2012 season with a 3-0 loss to San Jose State Saturday night in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match at Spartan Stadium.

Seattle U controlled the action in the first 11 minutes, highlighted by a corner kick from Chase Hanson (Kent, Wash.) that found the head of Hamza Haddadi (Shoreline, Wash.), but the header shot sailed wide. San Jose State took over the majority of the possession, with a header shot from Enrique Montano turned away by Seattle U keeper Jake Feener (Rocklin, Calif.) in the 27th minute.

San Jose State (8-8-1, 5-4-1 MPSF) broke through in the 29th minute, as a corner kick from Diego Ochoa found Montano, who guided a header inside the far post for his first goal of the season. The rest of the first half featured four yellow cards but no shots on goal as the Spartans took a 1-0 lead into the locker room at halftime.

In the 53rd minute, Frankie Beauchamp sent a pass through the defense to Jonathan Salceda, who converted from the right wing inside the far post for his sixth goal of the season. Just over two minutes later, Salceda fed Dylan Murphy, whose shot from about eight yards out slipped past Feener into the net for Murphy's fourth tally of the season, extending the Spartans' lead to 3-0.

Seattle U kept fighting to get on the scoreboard, but a shot from Haddadi sailed high and another scoring chance from Hanson was stopped by San Jose State goalkeeper Michael Schwinn. In the final 16 minutes of regulation, the Redhawks pressured the Spartan defense, but Schwinn was able to turn away scoring attempts by Enrique Bello (Caracas, Venezuela), Race Sciabica (Bellevue, Wash.), and Tyler Hanson (Federal Way, Wash.).

San Jose State outshot Seattle U, 14-9, led by Salceda and Montano with three shots apiece. Haddadi was the only Redhawk to earn more than one shot in the match, finishing with three total shots. Schwinn collected four saves for the shutout, while Feener was credited with two saves for Seattle U.

Seattle University finished the 2012 season with a 3-13-1 overall record. The Redhawks will not advance to next week's MPSF Tournament after posting a 1-8-1 mark within the conference.
