Women’s Rowing Completes First Race as Varsity Program
Seattle University women’s rowing completed their first race as a NCAA Division I varsity program at the Portland Fall Classic in Portland, Ore.
“We were very happy with the team’s performance today,” said head coach Portia McGee. “It was great to see our student-athletes go out and attack their first race with good intensity and excitement. The novice boat had a great row and now know the thrill of competing at the college level. We are looking forward to a good week of training before our second race next weekend at Head of the Lake in Seattle.”
In the fourth race on the day, Washington State University won the Women’s Collegiate Varsity 8+ race with a time of 17:23.16 over the 5000m course. The Seattle U V8+ placed sixth of nine with a time of 18:52.78.
In race No. 28, the Women’s Collegiate/Open Novice 8+ race, the Seattle U N8+, comprised completely of walk-ons, finished fourth of ten with a time of 20:56.88. Gonzaga B finished first with a time of 20:24.66.
Results for all races can be found at www.portlandfallclassic.com. The Redhawks will conclude the fall season next Sunday, Nov. 4 at Head of the Lake on University of Washington’s home course, the Montlake Cut, starting at 8 am. The season will resume on Mar. 30, 2013 at the Class Day Regatta, also on the Montlake Cut, starting at 10 a.m.
