Four singles players and one doubles squad from the Seattle
University women’s tennis team saw action in Sunday’s final day of the Boise
State Jack Taylor Classic in Boise, Idaho.
Dayna Bennett (Issaquah, Wash.) won the White Flight’s west
consolation bracket by default Sunday morning as her opponent, Megan
Rindlisbacher of Weber State, had to leave the tournament early. In the White
Flight’s first-round loss consolation bracket, Kristen James (Lubbock, Texas)
fell in the championship match by a score of 6-1, 6-4 to Svenja Tegtmeier of
Idaho State.
The Redhawks had two players in the semifinals of the Orange
Flight’s second round loss consolation, but neither Corinne Wurden (Poulsbo,
Wash.) nor Sarah Lucas (Las Vegas, Nev.) could advance to the final. Both pushed
their matches into a third-set tiebreak, but Wurden fell to Julie Tukuafu of
Utah State 6-4, 3-6, 1-0(10-5), and Lucas lost to the Aggies’ 6-2, 2-6,
1-0(10-8).
In the Doubles Orange Flight first round loss consolation,
Lucas teamed up with Gabriella Weissmann (Simi Valley, Calif.) to take on Boise
State’s Teal Vosburgh and Manuela Pietzuch in the bracket’s final match. The SU
duo fell 8-2, finishing the Redhawks’ participation in the tournament.
With the conclusion of the BSU Jack Taylor Classic, the
Seattle U women’s tennis team has now completed its fall season. The first spring
season dual match is scheduled for Tuesday, January 15 when the Redhawks take
on Washington at the Nordstrom Tennis Center in Seattle. The match is scheduled
to start at 5:00 p.m.
