Redhawks Take First Roadtrip of 2012: Seattle University women’s soccer will take their first road trip of the 2012 regular season, traveling to San Diego to face the San Diego State Aztecs on Friday, Aug. 24 at 7 p.m., before returning home to host in-state foe Eastern Washington on Sunday, Aug. 26 at 1 p.m.

Busque Named WAC Offensive Player of the Week (Aug. 13-19): Melissa Busque was named the Western Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week after recording a hat trick on Aug. 19 versus St. Mary’s. She scored the first two goals of the match and added a third on a corner kick in the second half, leading to a 5-1 victory over the Gaels. Busque also co-led the team in shots in both matches over the weekend, with three (Aug. 17 vs. Washington) and five (Aug. 19 vs. St. Mary’s), respectively.
 
Leaders of the WAC: After the first week of competition, the Redhawks lead the WAC in shots (41), points (14), goals (5), assists (4), shots per match (20.5), points per match (7), goals per match (2.5), and assists per match (2). Individually, Melissa Busque leads the WAC in points (6), goals (3), points per match (3), and goals per match (1.5).

Scouting San Diego State: The Aztecs won both contests on opening weekend, defeating SMU, 1-0, and Arizona State, 2-0, both on their home field. They continue their homestretch through the remainder of August before traveling to Minneapolis, Minn. for the Minnesota Gold Classic on Sept. 7 and 9. Two student-athletes earned accolades for their performances this past weekend, with forward Kelsey Booth named CollegeSportsMadness.com Mountain West Player of the Week and goalkeeper Rachel Boaz named Mountain West Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week by the conference office.

Last Time Out: The Redhawks and Aztecs last met in 2011 at the UNLV Nike Invitational, a contest which Seattle U won, 3-1, and which also marked SU head coach Julie Woodward’s 200th career victory. This will be the third time the two teams have met, with the Aztecs earning a 2-0 victory in San Diego in 2009.
 
Scouting Eastern Washington: This weekend will mark the opening of the regular season for the Eagles, as they will face North Dakota State before making the trip to Seattle. Forward Cassie Black and goalkeeper Jamie Walker were named among TopDrawerSoccer.com’s pre-season Big Sky Conference 20 “players to watch” and forward Katie Cashman was named College Sports Madness Big Sky Conference Women’s Soccer Preseason Second Team All-Conference.

Last Time Out: This will be the fifth time the two teams have faced in as many years, with Seattle U holding the 4-0 advantage. The Redhawks won, 5-0, in their last regular season meeting with the Eagles in 2011.
