NFCA RELEASE

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – (Oct. 10) Kayla Gonzales and Susanne Morris of Seattle University softball have been named National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-America Scholar-Athletes for the 2016-17 academic year.

Gonzales graduated in June with a degree in psychology. She appeared in 36 games last season, hitting four home runs. Her pinch-hit three-run home run in the sixth inning of the WAC Championship gave Seattle U a 14-11 lead before New Mexico State rallied to win the title on May 13.

Morris, now a senior, posted a 4.0 grade point average for the 2016-17 year. The film and media production major played in 38 contests, including a start behind the plate in Alyssa Reuble’s perfect game against South Dakota on March 10.

Student-athletes must claim a 3.5 GPA for the academic year to qualify for the squad. An NFCA-record 7,351 players were honored across the NCAA this year.
