After four years as Compliance Coordinator, Chelsea Herman was promoted to the position of Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance/Senior Woman Administrator at Seattle University in the summer of 2015.

Herman enters her fifth year as a member of the Seattle U athletics department in 2016-17, continuing her duties in coordinating the school’s NCAA compliance program, especially dealing with initial student-athlete eligibility and admissions as well as continuing rules education for student-athletes, coaches, and athletics staff. As SWA, Herman will represent the athletics program at various Western Athletic Conference and NCAA meetings, plus she is responsible for handling matters relating to gender equity.

Herman came to Seattle U from Boise State, where she oversaw advising for men’s basketball, women’s basketball, wrestling, swimming and diving, and men’s golf teams while also serving as an instructor for First Year Seminar for Student-Athlete courses. Herman also played an active role in their CHAMPS/Life Skills (BroncoLIFE) program as well as serving two years as Tutor Coordinator. Additionally, she developed an intensive five-week curriculum Summer Bridge program for incoming freshman football players.

Prior to her service in Boise, she served in the Gonzaga Athletic Department as an Academic Advising Intern, taught graduate level statistics and educational measurement at Washington State University, and was a Research Assistant for the Center for ETHICS* at the University of Idaho.

Herman earned her degree in Physical Education and Health from Gonzaga University in 1997 where she captained the women’s basketball team as a point guard. After her playing career, she earned her Ph.D. from the University of Idaho, writing her dissertation on Athletic Identity and Transitional Loss of Division I Student-Athletes and co-authored a Life Skills/Character Curriculum for University of Georgia freshman football players.
